Overview:

The lesson plans included in this section are examples of work I have completed through Teacher's Education courses at Michigan State, which include types of lessons that I would like to implement in my future classrooms.

Lesson Plans:

Lessons on Podcasting With Dystopian Literature Circles:

This lesson plan is part of the larger unit on "Dystopia", which I have briefly described in my year-long unit sample. I am particularly fond of this lesson, because I have been able to revise it several times through the lens of English Language Learners (when working in my minor lab), and through the lens of effective writing (when workshopping in my English 413 class, designed specifically for writing instruction).
The use of podcast technology has been developed from the professional education article “Plugging in to Twenty-First Century Writers” by Sara Kajder. Podcasts ask the students to use technology to record their literature circle discussions, listen to the discussions and be able to review and respond to them, and in the last stages, edit their discussions to be the best representations of their ideas. I believe technology is an important aspect of modern education for students to become comfortable with, especially as the use of technology grows in their everyday lives.

Working With Shakespeare:

This lesson was designed in my first semester of my senior Teacher's Education class, and we were asked to create lessons for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In doing so, I was able to practice creating a lesson for young, 9th grade learners, around a very difficult text. In this lesson, I have students approach Shakespeare in a very interactive way, hoping that this interaction will help them gain confidence in working with such an advanced text.
